Security Tips

Question: Why should you turn off Bluetooth capabilities on your devices while traveling? Answer:  Bluetooth connectivity allows your device to connect wirelessly with other devices, such as headphones or the audio systems in your car or home.  While you travel, nearby cyber criminals can hack into your device.  Once connected to your phone, hackers can infect your device with malware, steal your personal data, or spy on you without you even noticing.  To prevent this, be sure to disable these features and only turn them on when you want to connect to a specific Bluetooth device or network. In a fast changing world of technology, Peoples State Bank would like to provide you with a few tips on secure online banking: Type your Internet banking URL. For example: http://www.psbup.com Passwords should be kept secret at all times. We will never contact you directly to ask you to disclose your password information. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Do not be conned by convincing emails or phone calls offering you the chance to make some easy money. It is important to use up-to- date anti-virus software and a personal firewall. Avoid public wireless Internet access. Hackers and identity thieves often monitor these networks or install malware to capture your login credentials. Keep your identity private. Your identity can be as easily stolen offline as it can online. Do not write down your username and password and leave it next to your computer, and always comply with instructions about destroying expired bank cards. Check your bank statements. It is important to regularly check your statements for erroneous or criminal transactions. Ensure you log off properly. It is important to make sure that you log off from your internet banking session or any website that holds your sensitive information. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Peoples State Bank at 906-387- 2006 or email us at cebpsb@psbup.com.
